What is mulch made of?

Mulch is primarily made of organic material and can come in a variety of forms. It is most commonly made of tree bark, wood chips, pine straw, moss, grass clippings, or leaves. Other substances like newspaper, manure, compost, or rubber are also popular.

At Dakin, our mulch is primarily made of tree bark or wood chips. We use recycled tree debris that would otherwise end up in a landfill or a burn pile.

In general, mulch is used to retain moisture in the soil, suppress weeds, keep the soil cool, prevent frost, and make the garden bed look more attractive. Organic mulch also helps improve the soil’s structure, drainage, and nutrient-holding capacity as they decompose.

Why use mulch?

Mulch actively protects your gardens and landscape areas. It’s an inexpensive and simple, and could potentially bring your plants back to life and prevent current and future problems. It’s important that you use mulch with real materials that your plants will be able to benefit from.

While the alternative, chucks of wood that are painted, still have the potential to break down into the soil eventually, the process is slow and ugly. It isn’t meant to serve the purposes that natural wood provides. Dakin has been supplying safe, clean mulch for years. We only offer virgin tree mulch; we will never sell mulch made from construction waste or used pallets.
